About the Lecture
Dr. Petersen is an international leader in the field of Alzheimer’s disease research and a highly regarded neurologist, having diagnosed the disease in former President Ronald Reagan. In 2011, he was appointed the Secretary of Health and Human Services to spearhead the National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease. Over the course of his tenure, Dr. Petersen has authored more than 700 peer-reviewed journal articles and five books on memory disorders. At the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Dr. Petersen and his colleagues evaluate cognitive changes in normal aging, mild cognitive impairment, and dementia with an emphasis on brain imaging and biomarkers.
Dr. Petersen’s lecture will address “Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease in the Era of Biomarkers.” Biomarkers are objective biological measures that may someday be used to identify people at risk for Alzheimer’s disease who may benefit from early intervention aimed to prevent or delay the onset of memory problems. Biomarkers are rapidly advancing the field of AD research and Dr. Petersen is leading the way.
The lecture is free, but parking is $10.00. Get there early because there is no reserved seating.
