Dr. Gillian Hayes, UCI Robert A. and Barbara L. Kleist Professor of Informatics, Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate Division, co-leader of the CERES Collaborative Network. Working on human-computer interaction and how AI can improve education and learning in children.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Ari Waldman, UCI Law Professor. Author of "Privacy As Trust: Information Privacy for an Information Age" and "Industry Unbound: The Inside Story of Privacy, Data, and Corporate Power”. Working on intersection of technology, privacy and cyber civil rights. 

 

 

 

Dr. Jesse PalmaPrincipal Machine Learning Engineer at EcoCart. Currently working on machine learning methods to improve methods for determining the ecological footprint of consumer purchases and provide the capability to offset it.

 

 

 

Scholar Co-Moderators: 

Dr. Lauren Urban, ARCS Alum and recent graduate. Currently a data scientist and machine learning engineer at Go Health, a health insurance company.

Vincent Zaballa, ARCS Alum (just completed last year). Biomedical engineer, working on deep-learning models of biological data interpretation.

THE ARNOLD O. BECKMAN FAMILY STORY


A blacksmith’s son who turned his natural inquisitiveness into a career as one of the world’s leading inventors of scientific instruments, Dr. Arnold Beckman is a classic American success story. Dr. Beckman took what life gave him and through creativity and persistence, forged a better existence for himself and others. This desire to continually search for solutions eventually led him to the invention of the pH meter and the DU Spectrophotometer, devices that revolutionized analytical chemistry, and earned him a place in the National Inventors Hall of Fame. With his wife Mabel and daughter Patricia, the Beckman family has donated millions to academic research and medical facilities. Mabel died in 1989, Arnold in 2004, and Patricia in 2011.
