On March 29, ARCS® Foundation Orange County Chapter (ARCS-OC) hosted the 23rd Annual ARCS Scholar Awards at UCI's “The Cove”. The event celebrated and featured the research of current ARCS-OC scholars who represent the next generation of promising STEM scientists. The luncheon – which was organized by the ARCS-OC board and hosted by current ARCS-OC president Stephanie Beckman – was attended by nearly 100 scholars, scientists, deans, and members of the Orange County corporate science and technology community who came together to learn about the exciting research of our current cohort of ARCS-OC scholars.
University of California-Irvine (UCI) Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate Division Dr. Gillian Hayes delivered inspiring opening remarks to help kick off the event. First-year ARCS-OC scholars presented their research in a poster session and second-year ARCS-OC scholars gave a series of fascinating platform presentations to highlight their work.
“The 23rd Annual ARCS Scholar Awards is one of my favorite events that we organize,” said Dr. Nan Hultgren, an ARCS-OC scholar alumna and candidate for incoming ARCS-OC president. “It’s a unique and powerful opportunity to learn more about the impact that ARCS Foundation scholars have had and continue to have on their respective fields, and to see how our scholar awards are helping to propel that research forward in Orange County.”
“The Board and I would like to thank everyone who attended for their enthusaistic participation and generous support of our brilliant ARCS-OC scholars,” said Beckman. “Thanks to their participation, ARCS-OC is proud to announce that the event itself raised donations to fund at least one annual scholar award in full!”
