“BRAIN-MACHINE INTERFACING: FROM THEORY TO
THERAPY”
Sumner will describe his development of a technology called a brain-machine interface, that enables people to power computers and prosthetic limbs with only their mind. This is an extension of his graduate research at UCI to develop technology to awaken pathways in the brain to restore function to paralyzed limbs after injury. Sumner has received numerous awards and is active in state and federal government advocacy for science and education funding.
